In P.E.I. Junior C Hockey League

CRAPAUD – The Southside Lynx will enter the playoffs as the No. 1 seed in the Razzy’s P.E.I. Junior C Hockey League.

The Lynx clinched the regular-season championship with a 7-5 road win over the Tignish Perry’s Construction Aces on Friday night. Southside followed that up with a 5-1 win on home ice over the second-place Belfast Sabres on Saturday night.

Southside, which has two games remaining in the regular season, has a record of 21-2-3 (won-lost-overtime/shootout losses). Belfast, which is 16-8-1, is scheduled to host North River on Sunday afternoon.

At the South Shore Actiplex, the Sabres’ Jack Panting opened the game’s scoring at the 11-second mark unassisted, but the Lynx would go on to score five unanswered goals.

Andy Murphy (2), Alex MacLeod (1-2), Colton Dawson (1-1) and Cody Dawson scored for the Crapaud-based Lynx. Marshall Thomas (2), Joel MacIsaac (2), Taylor Buote, Chron MacVittie and Marshall Mayne chipped in with helpers.

The Lynx built period leads of 2-1 and 5-1.

Dylan Garnhum registered the goaltending win over Ben Ladner.

Referee Justin DesRoches whistled three minor penalties against each team.
