UNB defeats UPEI Panthers in overtime in men's hockey

Cam Braes scored 5:55 into overtime Saturday as the UNB Varsity Reds defeated the UPEI Panthers 5-4 in Atlantic University Sport (AUS) men’s hockey action.

UNB’s Jordan Murray tied the game in the final second of the third period to force overtime.

Cole MacMillan had a goal and two assists for the Panthers while Travis McIsaac had a goal and an assist. Matt Maione and Tyler Brown also scored while Reggie Traccitto had two assists and Jordan Mayer one.

Phillippe Maillet had two goals for the Reds while Thomas Nesbitt had a single.

Joel Vienneau made 30 saves for the win while Wayne Savage stopped 32 shots in the loss.

UPEI led 2-1 after the first period while the teams went to the third tied 3-3.

UPEI was 3-for-8 on the power play while UNB was 0-for-5.

The Reds improve to 18-3-1 while the Panthers fall to 11-7-3.
