SUMMERSIDE – The Summerside Western Capitals have introduced a new way for fans to enjoy the team’s away games.

Local businesses in the Summerside area will host a “Road Game Rumble,” where the game will be streamed through the Fast Hockey live feed on big screens.

The event, which is free to fans, is organized by the volunteer-based Caps Crew, the team’s booster club. Food and drink specials will be offered at the place of business hosting that particular game’s viewing, and some special giveaways will also be provided by the Summerside Western Capitals, who play in the MHL (Maritime Junior Hockey League).

“It’s all about the fan experience and being a part of something bigger,” explains the team’s marketing manager, Danny Perry. “It was a great idea from the Caps Crew, and we support them 100 per cent in their endeavours.”

The event was launched last weekend when the Caps visited Bridgewater and Yarmouth, and a good number of fans showed up.

“I talked with many people who attended last weekend, and they all had great things to say about the new initiative,” says Perry. “I think this event can really take off, especially when we hit the playoffs.”

The next “Road Game Rumble” takes place at Dooly’s on Friday as the Caps take on Campbellton. Fans are encouraged to arrive by 7 p.m., and the puck drops at 7:30 p.m.

Fans are encouraged to take photos and following along with the team’s official Twitter and Facebook pages as the game processes, posting their support for Summerside’s team.
