McQuaid’s late goal salvages tie for Abbies vs. Matrix

KENSINGTON – Chris McQuaid scored with 40 seconds remaining in the third period to lift the Charlottetown Abbies into a 2-2 tie with the Mid-Isle Matrix on Tuesday night.

The P.E.I. Irving Oil Bantam AAA Hockey League game was played at Community Gardens.

Thomas Harper and Andrew Campbell assisted on the equalizer, which came with Abbies goaltender Matthew Halliwell on the bench for an extra attacker. Campbell, assisted by Kallum Muirhead and Gavin Hickey, also scored for the Abbies.

Hikaru Kinowaki and Ryan Boswall found the back of the net for the Matrix. Noah Stewart and Donavan Wyand assisted.

Calaen Ferguson was between the pipes for the Matrix.

The teams were scoreless after the first period, and tied 1-1 after the second.

This is the third of four games the two teams played that ended in a 2-2 tie.

    How could it be tied 2-2 after the 2nd but McQuaid's goal with 40 seconds left in the 3rd tied the game at 2??
