Power-play goals lift Caps past Sabres

BELFAST – The power play proved to be the difference for the Summerside Source for Sports Capitals on Saturday night.

The Capitals struck for two goals with the man advantage in the second period en route to a 2-1 win over the host Belfast Sabres.

Travis Thibideau (1-1) and Cameron Arsenault scored for Summerside, which improved its record to 13-10-1 (won-lost-overtime/shootout losses). Cody Arsenault added an assist.

Carter MacLellan, assisted by Jack Panting and Cody McGuirk, netted the lone goal for the Sabres (15-7-1).

The first period was scoreless, and the Caps took a 2-0 cushion into the second intermission.

Catlin Sonier was the winning goaltender, and Jason Whiteway tended goal for Belfast. The final shots-on-goal totals were 30-28 in favour of Summerside.

Referee Thane Arsenault called eight minors, two 10-minute misconducts and one game misconduct against the Capitals. Belfast was called seven minors, one major for hitting to the head and one game misconduct.
