SUMMERSIDE – The Summerside Capitals defeated the Charlottetown Abbies 4-1 in P.E.I. Irving Oil Bantam AAA Hockey League action here at Eastlink Arena on Thursday night.

Tayler Read opened the game’s scoring in the first period, and scored an unassisted short-handed marker in the middle frame to send the Caps into the second intermission up 2-0.

Brodie MacArthur made it 3-0 at 3:42 of the third period. Robbie Howatt’s goal at 11:40 spoiled the shutout bid of Capitals goaltender Caleb Coyle, who stopped 13 of 14 shots. Zach Thususka’s unassisted goal at 13:18 closed out the scoring for Summerside.

Coleton Perry, Blake Gallant, Dawson McCormack and Darian Demchuk added assists for the Capitals. Thomas Casey and Chris McQuaid assisted on Charlottetown’s goal.

Ava Boutilier stopped 17 of 21 shots for the Abbies.

Referee Nolan Cornish called four of the game’s seven minors against Summerside.
