SUMMERSIDE – P.E.I.’s two cities will clash in the P.E.I. Irving Oil Bantam AAA Hockey League on Thursday night.

The Summerside Capitals will host the Charlottetown Abbies to Eastlink Arena for a 7:30 start. It will be the Caps’ first game action in nine days.

The second-place Capitals, who are 14-3-2 (won-lost-tied), are looking to add to their two-game winning streak while the third-place Abbies bring a 13-2-3 record into the game.

The Capitals pulled out a hard-fought 3-2 win over the Abbies in the last head-to-head meeting between the two teams on Jan. 5.

“The Abbies are well-coached team, and will be prepared for us,” said Capitals head coach Todd Richard, who is looking forward to the game. “They are strong in their own end and have depth up front, making it a challenge every time we play them. Last game we played against them we had a great atmosphere in the rink.

Abbies head coach Corey Gaudet expects no different.

“I expect Todd to have his guys prepared to take the play to us early,” said Gaudet. “They (Caps) will get their chances. Summerside is well coached and well prepared.

“Our goal every night is to be the hardest working team on the ice. Our size and speed will be key.”

Both coaches are happy with the play of their respective teams of late, but know there is work to be done.

The Summerside Capitals will start Caleb Coyle in nets while the Abbies will counter with Ava Boutillier.
