Mooseheads top Islanders

HALIFAX – It was a history-making night for Brent Andrews of the Halifax Mooseheads on Wednesday.

Andrews, who is from Hunter River, scored a goal and assisted on another to set a career-high in points in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League. Andrews, who now has 46 points, including 19 goals, passed his previous best of 45 set last season.

Andrews’ two points helped the Halifax Mooseheads to a 5-1 victory over the Charlottetown Islanders before 7,121 fans at the Halifax Metro Centre.

Darcy Ashley of Brooklyn netted his 20th goal of the regular season. Ashley, who was named the game’s second star, also contributed two assists for a three-point night.

Philippe Gadoury (1-1), Luca Ciampini (1-1) and MacKenzie Weegar rounded out the scoring for Halifax, which improved to 28-16-0-1 (won-lost-overtime losses-shootout losses).

Alexandre Goulet answered for the Islanders (17-23-1-4).

The Mooseheads led 2-0 after the first period, and 3-1 following 40 minutes.

Overall, the Mooseheads outshot the Islanders 48-17, including a 35-10 advantage through the first two periods.

Zach Fucale earned the goaltending win over Eric Brassard.

The Islanders visit the Saint John Sea Dogs on Friday night.
