Mella’s three-goal effort sparks Sherwood

SHERWOOD – The Sherwood Falcons overcame a three-goal deficit to earn their second win of the Razzy’s P.E.I. Junior C Hockey League on Monday night.

The host Falcons, led by Zac Mella’s hat trick, topped the Souris 5-3 at the Cody Banks Arena. Brodie MacArthur and Dave Redmond also scored for the Falcons, who improved to 2-18-2 (won-lost-tied).

Darcy Nicholson (1-1), JD Farrell and Jordan Roche answered for the Hawks (8-9-3).

Souris held period leads of 3-0 and 3-2, but the Falcons rallied in the third period. Mella tied the game with a short-handed goal at 12:09, and then capped the comeback with an even-strength goal with 20 seconds remaining.

Tyler Gould registered the goaltending win over Seth Nicholson.

Referee Tim Hamel assessed six of 10 minor penalties against the Hawks.
