Amherst Ramblers goaltender Billy Clarke makes one of his 44 saves off the Summerside Western Capitals’ Brad Power during Sunday afternoon’s MHL (Maritime Junior Hockey League) game at Eastlink Arena. Amherst defenceman Ben MacDonald defends against Power.
Morrison scored two goals to lift the Amherst Ramblers to a 2-1 win over the Capitals before an announced crowd of 824 fans at Eastlink Arena.
Morrison’s short-handed breakaway goal at 14:10 of the third period broke a 1-1 tie. He also opened the game’s scoring with a power-play goal at 12:17 of the second period.
Brad Power, who connected with the man advantage, tied the game for the Caps in the last minute of the second period.
Overall, the Caps outshot the Ramblers 45-28. Both goaltenders – Billy Clarke (Ramblers) and Alex Kelly (Caps) – had strong games.
Referee Thane Arsenault called three of five minor penalties against the Capitals, who also picked up one checking-from-behind game misconduct.
The win improves Amherst’s record to 22-10-0-1 (won-lost-overtime losses-shootout losses) while the Caps fell to 11-18-2-1.
