Wild, Islanders advance to quarter-finals of East Coast Ice Jam

BEDFORD, N.S. – P.E.I.’s two major midget entries in the East Coast Ice Jam hockey tournament have advanced to Saturday night’s quarter-finals.

Kensington Wild

The Kensington Monaghan Farms Wild and Charlottetown Islanders each won their respective Round of 16 playoff games on Saturday afternoon.

The Wild defeated the Rothesay Netherwood Riverhawks 4-1, and the Islanders doubled Western Kings 4-2. In the quarter-finals, the Islanders will take on the Miramichi Rivermen at 9 p.m., and the Wild will meet Halifax McDonald’s in a 9:30 start.



Against the Riverhawks, the Wild jumped out to period leads of 2-1 and 4-1.

Four different players – Max Morrison, Austin Taylor, Sam Jay and Michael Evoy – found the back of the net for the Wild. Spencer Sherren, Kyle Pinksen and Abel Arsenault were credited with single assists.

Cameron Visser recorded the goaltending win.



All of the scoring in the Islanders-Kings’ game took place in the third period.

Cody MacPhee led the Islanders with two goals while singles came off the sticks of Nick Bouchey and Alex Hambly. Jonathan Arsenault, Hunter McIntyre, Cole Jenkins and Connor MacEachern picked up single assists.

Darryl MacCallum faced 31 shots in goal for the Islanders.
