Jay leads Wild to decisive win in opener

BEDFORD, N.S. – Sam Jay led the way as the Kensington Monaghan Farms Wild got off to a strong start at the East Coast Ice Jam hockey tournament here Thursday afternoon.

Jay had three goals and an assist as the Wild routed the Cape Breton West Islanders 8-1. It was the opening game for the Wild, who returns to action against the St. John’s Privateers on Thursday at 9:30 p.m.

The East Coast Ice Jam features bantam AAA and major midget divisions. The Wild plays in the New Brunswick/P.E.I. Major Midget Hockey League.

Kyle Pinksen (2), Cole Hackett (1-1), Spencer Sherren (1-1) and Colton Chiasson (1-1) rounded out the scoring for the Wild. Michael Evoy (3), Abel Arsenault (3), Campbell Gallant, Evan Millman and Max Morrison contributed assists.

The Wild built period leads of 2-1 and 4-1, and put the game out of reach with four unanswered goals in the final frame.

Overall, the Wild outshot the Islanders 32-14. Winning goaltender was Bradley Shea.
