Bantam Matrix drop opener at East Coast Ice Jam

BEDFORD, N.S. – The Mid-Isle Matrix dropped a 4-2 decision to the Scotsburn Crushers in their opening game of the East Coast Ice Jam hockey tournament here Thursday afternoon.

The East Coast Ice Jam features bantam AAA and major midget divisions. The Matrix is a member of the P.E.I. Irving Oil Bantam AAA Hockey League.

Hikaru Kinowaki, assisted by Nick Trainor, gave the Matrix a 1-0 first-period lead, and that score held up through the first two periods. The third period, however, belonged to the Crushers, who outscored the Matrix 4-1.

After the Crushers took a 3-1 lead, Ryan Boswall’s unassisted goal with 10:03 remaining brought the Matrix to within 3-2.

Tyler Caseley faced 25 shots in the Matrix goal.

The Matrix takes on the Pro Hockey Life Harbour Storm on Thursday at 8:45 p.m.
