Named second star in game vs. Islanders
CHARLOTTETOWN – Darcy Ashley of Brooklyn, P.E.I., played an important role for the Halifax Mooseheads on Wednesday night.
Ashley scored what proved to be the winning goal, finished with a plus-2 rating and was named the second star in the Mooseheads 5-2 victory over the Charlottetown Islanders in a Quebec Major Junior Hockey League game at Eastlink Centre.
Ashley’s 17th goal of the season at 3:23 of the second period gave the Mooseheads a 3-2 lead before 2,059 fans.
Luca Ciampini (1-1), Connor Moynihan, Andrew Shewfelt and Danny Moynihan also scored for the Mooseheads, who improved to 26-15-0-1 (won-lost-overtime losses-shootout losses). Brent Andrews of Hunter River added an assist for Halifax.
Daniel Sprong and Anthony Cortese replied for the Islanders (16-21-1-4).
The Islanders led 2-1 after the first period, and the Mooseheads took a 3-2 advantage into the second intermission.
Kevin Darveau earned the goaltending decision over Eric Brassard.
Two Caps play
Two members of the Summerside Western Capitals played in the game as affiliated players. Defenceman Cavan Fitzgerald suited up for the Mooseheads while forward Malik Johnson was in the Islanders’ lineup.
The Islanders host Shawinigan on Friday.
