Power-play goals key Maroons’ victory over Matrix

KENSINGTON – The power play keyed the Western Maroons’ 6-2 victory over the Mid-Isle Matrix in a P.E.I. Irving Oil Bantam AAA Hockey League game here at Community Gardens on Tuesday night.

The Maroons scored three goals with the man advantage, including two during a five-minute major assessed to the Matrix.

Brayden Handrahan (1-2), Connor Morrissey (1-1), Sterling MacKendrick (1-1), Brydon Smith (1-1), Isaac Knox and Alex Morrissey scored for the Maroons. Chance Pitre (2), Tristan Cahill, Jax Harper and Silas Handrahan chipped in with assists.

For the Matrix, Logan MacKay netted both goals while helpers went to Clark Webster (2), Tyler Gallant and Zac MacKay.

The first period was scoreless, and the Maroons took a 2-1 lead into the final frame.

Luke Oliver earned the goaltending win, and Caelan Ferguson was between the pipes for Mid-Isle.
