KENSINGTON – Kyle Pinksen’s goal at 8:29 of the third period broke a 1-1 tie, and proved to be the game-winner for the Kensington Monaghan Farms Wild on Saturday night.
Sam Jay netted an empty-net goal in the game’s final minute to secure a 3-1 victory for the Wild over the Moncton Flyers in New Brunswick/P.E.I. Major Midget Hockey League action at Community Gardens.
Campbell Gallant also scored for the Wild, who got back on the winning track after back-to-back losses to the fifth-place Fredericton Canadiens while improving to 10-12-2 (won-lost-overtime/shootout losses). Parker Ronahan (2), Cole Hackett, Michael Evoy and Max Morrison chipped in with assists.
Liam Conrad was the lone scorer for Moncton, which took a 17-7-0 resumé into Sunday’s game against Fredericton.
The Wild led 1-0 after the opening period, and the teams were tied 1-1 following 40 minutes of action.
Cameron Visser turned in a 45-save performance to backstop the Wild to the victory. Moncton goaltender Maxim Landry faced 23 shots.
Referee Jonny Martin called four of the game’s five minor penalties against the Wild.
The Wild’s next league game is not listed until Saturday, Jan. 18, when they pay a return visit to Moncton. Kensington’s next home game at Community Gardens is against Fredericton on Sunday, Jan. 19, at 2 p.m.
