Panthers women's hockey team knocks off conference-leading X-Women

Captain Ferran Brown scored the only goal of the shootout Saturday as the UPEI Panthers defeated the St. F.X. X-Women 3-2.

It was the Panthers' first game of the second semester of the Atlantic University Sport (AUS) women’s hockey season. They improve to 6-8 while the conference-leading X-Women fell to 11-1-1.

Courtney Stewart and Lyndsay Oakes accounted for the host Panthers goals in regulation with assists from Jessie Howard, Amy Mountenay and Laura Bradley. Daley Oddy from Kara Power and Erin Brophy from Alexa Normore replied for St. F.X.

Marie Soleil Deschenes made 31 saves in the win while Pascale Daigle stopped 22 in the loss.

St. F.X. led 1-0 after the first and 2-1 through two periods.

The Panthers travel to Sackville, N.B., on Sunday, Jan. 12 to play the Mount Allison Mounties at 3 p.m.
