Three-goal third period lifts Canadiens past Wild

TIGNISH – The Fredericton Canadiens struck for three unanswered third-period goals to defeat the Kensington Monaghan Farms Wild 4-1 on Thursday night.

The rescheduled game in the New Brunswick/P.E.I. Major Midget Hockey League was played at the Tignish Credit Union Arena.

The Canadiens led 1-0 after the opening period, and the teams went into the second intermission tied 1-1.

Matt Paul, Taylor LeBlanc, Patrick Daley and Peyton Hoyt scored for the Canadiens, who improved to 7-14-1 (won-lost-overtime/shootout losses).

Cole Hackett, assisted by Max Morrison and Sam Jay, netted the lone goal for the Wild (9-12-2).

Aiden Critchlow earned the goaltending win over Bradley Shea.

Referee Steve Dyer called seven of the game’s 11 minor penalties against the Wild. Each team also received one double minor for head contact.

The Wild travels to Saint John on Friday to face the first-place Vitos (17-5-1), and returns to Community Gardens on Saturday to entertain the second-place Moncton Flyers (17-6-0) in a 7:30 start.
