Bantam Maroons take over sole possession of top spot

With one-goal win over Summerside

SUMMERSIDE – The O’Leary-based Western Maroons took over sole possession of first place in the P.E.I. Irving Oil Bantam AAA Hockey League on Thursday night.

Chance Pitre’s power-play goal at 3:53 of the third period snapped a 2-2 tie, and lifted the Maroons to a 3-2 road win over the Summerside Capitals at Eastlink Arena. Both teams entered the game with identical 12-2-2 (won-lost-tied) records.

Silas Handrahan and Alex Morrissey also scored for the Maroons, who received assists from Connor Morrissey (2), Bryden Smith, Jake Arsenault and Brayden Handrahan.

Noah Dobson netted both Summerside goals, with assists going to Brodie MacArthur (2), Dawson McCormack and Sam Bernard.

The teams were tied 1-1 after the first period, and 2-2 following the second.

Winning goaltender Luke Oliver turned aside 18 of 20 shots while Caleb Doyle stopped 13 of 16 in the Summerside cage.

The Maroons were assessed three minors and one double minor for checking to the head. The Capitals were called for two minors, one boarding major and one game misconduct.
