Hemphill Pontiac Capitals claim tournament championship

SUMMERSIDE – The Summerside Hemphill Pontiac Capitals got by the Summerside Lions Club Capitals 5-3 in the championship game of the P.E.I. Police Association novice A tournament at Credit Union Place recently.

Cole Atkinson’s hat trick  led the Hemphill attack, with single goals coming off the sticks of Zachary Harris and Aiden Ferrish. Joshua Chapman added an assist.

For the Lions Club, Lincoln Waugh (2-1) and Denver Arsenault found the back of the net.

The three-star selection in the championship game:

1. Zachary Harris (Hemphill), 2. Denver Arsenault (Lions Club), 3. Matt MacFarlane (Lions Club).

The Hemphill Pontiac squad went undefeated in round-robin play, posting wins of 8-1 against the North River Devils, 5-0 over the North River Capitals and 6-2 versus the North River Bruins before advancing directly to the championship game.

The Lions Club’s route to the final included a 3-1 win over the North River Capitals, a 5-5 tie with the North River Bruins and a 3-1 win over Tyne Valley before a tight 3-2 semifinal win over Summerside Greco Capitals.

In the semifinal, the Lions Club got goals from Lincoln Waugh, Josh Pridham and Jack Darrach, with assists credited to Alex Gaudet and Brewer Waugh.

Greco's scorers were Bradley McCourt and David Caron.

The three stars of the semifinal were:

1. George Gallant (Lions Club), 2. Ethan Steele (Greco), 3. Tanton Woolridge (Greco).
