CHARLOTTETOWN – Tignish Perry’s Construction Aces goaltender Jake Hackett has been named the Razzy’s P.E.I. Junior C Hockey League defensive player of the week.

Hackett earned his first victory of the season in impressive fashion on Monday night, recording a 42-save road shutout over the Sherwood Falcons.

Hackett, who led the Aces to the league championship the past two seasons, has seen limited action so far this season due to work commitments, but has been strong when he’s played. He has given up six goals in three games.

Offensive award

Cody McGuirk of the Belfast Sabres was selected as the offensive player of the week.

McGuirk set up the winning goal as part of a four-point night in Saturday’s win over the Falcons. He followed that performance up with another assist on the game-tying goal in a shootout win in Souris on Sunday.

McGuirk is in his first full season of junior C after playing with the Sherwood A&S Scrap Metal Falcons of the Island Junior Hockey League last year.

McGuirk leads the Sabres in scoring, and is tied for second in the league’s scoring race. He has 30 points, including nine goals, in 18 regular-season games.
