SUMMERSIDE - The Miramichi Timberwolves had too much fire power for the Summerside Western Capitals handing the Caps a 5-3 defeat on New Year’s Eve in Maritime Hockey League action at Credit Union Place.

The Timberwolves came out on fire scoring two goals in 1:44. Just 55 seconds into the game Rankyn Campbell on assists from Brett Malone and goaltender Clint Windsor, put the puck past Capitals net minder Alex Kelly.
No sooner had that goal been announced the Jordan Kennedy, assisted by Eric Walker and Tyler Brown beat Kelly for the second time at 1:44.
The Capitals came storming back midway through the opening period as Brad Power scored his first two goals on the night. On assists from Cavan Fitzgerald and Joey Colatard, Power beat Windsor at 13:o8 to bring the home team to within one.
The Capitals continued the assault when Thomas Stavert on an assist from Isaac Jay, tied the game at 14:49. But that would be as close as the Capitals would come all night.
Less than a minute layer, Brayton Woods, assisted by Malone and Trey Lewis put the Timberwolves back on top 3-2.
The Capitals couldn’t get anything going in the second period and took over six minutes before they got a shot on goal.
Tyler Brown got what would be the winning goal when he beat Kelly on an unassisted shot at 5:26 of the period.
Malone on assists from Mitch McMullin and Erik Walker, put the Timberwolves ahead 5-3.
Power got his second of the night for the Capitals at 58 seconds of the third period but that was all the offence the home team could muster.
Shots on goal were 33 for Miramichi and 27 for Summerside.
The first star was the Timberwolves’ Brett Malone. The Capitals Brad Power was named second star and Miramichi’s Rankyn Campbell was named as third star.
