CHARLOTTETOWN – Sport P.E.I. is once again calling for nominations for the 2013 amateur sport awards.

Celebrating the best in Island sport, the Sport P.E.I. awards banquet has become established as one of the landmark events on the sporting calendar.

It recognizes athletes, teams, coaches, officials and volunteers who have excelled in the past 12 months.

Awards to be presented will be the 2013 senior male and female athlete of the year, the junior male and female athlete of the year, the intercollegiate male and female athlete of the year, the masters’ award for athletes over the age of 35, team of the year and awards recognizing the province’s top coaches, officials and administrators. In addition, the Premier’s Award will be presented to the sports organization of the year, as decided as voted on by the Sport P.E.I. board of directors while the Lieutenant Governor’s Award recognizes the top overall Island athlete.

“It has been an outstanding year for sport, and there are many fine candidates for the top awards,” said Nick Murray, communications officer for Sport P.E.I. “We ask all our members, and indeed the public, to join in the nomination process and tell us who they think should be recognized.”

Forms are available from the Sport P.E.I. website at www.sportpei.pe.ca. The deadline for nominations is Friday, Jan. 10. The awards banquet will be held in April at the Rodd Royalty in Charlottetown.
