Regals’ offence explodes in final two periods

ALBERTON – The Western Regals spotted the Charlottetown Abbies a 2-1 lead after one period, but rallied for seven unanswered goals over the final 40 minutes for an 8-2 win on Saturday night.

P.E.I. Midget AAA Hockey League

The Regals scored four times in the second period to take a 5-2 lead into the dressing room after 40 minutes, and then closed out the game’s scoring with three more unanswered goals in the final frame of the P.E.I. Midget AAA Hockey League contest, played at the Jacques Cartier Arena.

Chase McCue (2-2), Jason Gallant (2), Jake Arsenault (1-2), William Stewart (1-2), who was named the Regal Cresting player of the game, Brandon Williams and Jeff Gaudet found the back of the net for the first-place Regals, who are now 14-2-3 (won-lost-tied). TJ Shea, Brayden Arsenault, Brendan Shea and Brett Aylward earned assists.

Drew Gallant and Quinton Gorman countered for the third-place Abbies (7-7-5). Ryan Lawless, Jarrod MacAdam and Matt Lange assisted.

Kristen Clements earned the goaltending win.

The Regals’ next home game in Alberton is against the Pownal Red Devils on Saturday, Jan. 4, at 7:30 p.m. The Regals will also host the Abbies at the Tignish Credit Union Arena on Sunday, Jan. 5, at 8:15 p.m.
