McGuirk’s four points lead Sabres

BELFAST – Cody McGuirk had a goal and three assists to lead the Belfast Sabres to a 5-2 victory over the Sherwood Falcons in the Razzy’s P.E.I. Junior C Hockey League here on Saturday night.

Cody Garnhum (2-1), Alex Kelly (1-1) and Simon VanWeichan (1-1) also dented the twine for the Sabres.

Joseph Ready and Nathan Stewart accounted for Sherwood’s scoring.

The teams were tied 2-2 after the first period, but the Sabres took a 5-2 advantage into the second intermission.

Ben Ladner earned the goaltending win over Steven Lannigan.

The Sabres improved to 13-3-1 (won-lost-overtime/shootout losses), and are in a first-place tie with the Southside Lynx (12-2-3). The Sabres have an opportunity to take over sole possession of top spot on Sunday night, when they visit the Souris Hawks (8-6-1).

The Falcons dropped to 1-14-1 with the loss.
