The Charlottetown Abbies and Western Maroons skated to a 4-4 draw Friday in Irving Oil Bantam AAA Hockey League action in O’Leary.

The visitors led 1-0 after the first and the game was tied 2-2 after two periods.

Western jumped out to a 3-2 lead in the third, but the Abbies tied. The Maroons regained the lead on the power play shortly after the Abbies equalizer.

Charlottetown tied with 50 seconds remaining and their goalie on the bench for the extra attacker.

“These are the games that you want to be part of,” said Maroons coach Jeff Ellsworth. “It really tests you as a hockey club and builds character. We gave up the lead late, but at this point in the season it's all a learning process. So, if we learned something from the final minute of play that will help us later on in the season (and) we are OK with that.”

The Abbies are 10-1-3 while the Maroons are 12-1-2.

Scoring for Western was Regal Cresting player of the game Brayden Handrahan 1-1, Diego LeClair 1-1, Chandler Wood and Chance Pitre. Drawing helpers were Alex Morrissey (2), Jacob Arsenault, Isaac Knox and Tristan Chaill.

Abbie's top scorer Andrew Campbell led the way Friday with two goals and an assist. Also scoring were Kelly Barrett 1-1, and Chris McQuaid 1-1. Drawing assists were Robbie Howatt and Thomas Casey.
