O’LEARY – First place is on the line in the P.E.I. Irving Oil Bantam AAA Hockey League here at the Community Sports Centre on Friday.

The Charlottetown Abbies bring a 10-1-2 (won-lost-tied) record into O’Leary to take on the hometown Maroons, who come in at 12-1-1. Game time is 8 p.m.

It’s a matchup of two evenly-matched teams, notes Maroons head coach Jeff Ellsworth.

In the only head-to-head meeting this season, the Maroons skated to a 4-1 victory in Alberton.

“We have to come ready to play,” said Ellsworth. “They (Abbies) have a fast, aggressive squad that has a record like that for a reason, they are good.

“Whoever wants it more will earn the two points.”

Western will turn to Luke Oliver between the pipes while Bronson Banks will get the nod on Sunday against Kings County.

“Our goaltending has been great this season thus far,” said Maroons assistant coach Tylan Robinson. “They give us a chance to win every game.”

The Maroons are hoping the great support continues as this will be their last home game before the Christmas break.
