In road win over Pownal

POWNAL – The Mid-Isle Matrix’s offence broke out in a big way on Monday night.

P.E.I. Midget AAA Hockey League

The Matrix jumped out to period leads of 1-0 and 5-1 en route to a 9-1 victory over the Pownal Red Devils.

The win pulled the third-place Matrix to within one point of the Charlottetown Abbies in the P.E.I. Midget AAA Hockey League standings. Mid-Isle is 8-6-1 (won-lost-tied) while Charlottetown sits at 7-5-4).

At the Pownal Sports Centre, Alex Wood (2), Jacob Stewart (1-2), Cody Miller (1-2), Evan Noonan (1-1), Brady Vandervelden (1-1), Drew Grady (1-1), James Murphy and affiliated player Danny MacKinnon lit the lamp for the Matrix. Brennon Jarvis (2) and affiliated player Sam MacPhail also assisted.

Harrison Hayden netted the lone goal for Pownal (2-11-3).

Winning goaltender was Sean MacPhee.

Referee Jeff Heron called four of six minor penalties against the Matrix. Each team picked up two double minors for head contact.
