CHARLOTTETOWN – The Holland College Hurricanes hung on to earn an important two points in the Island Junior Hockey League on Saturday night.

The Hurricanes built a 7-3 third-period lead, and then survived a late rally by the visiting Arsenault’s Fish Mart Western Red Wings to pull out a 7-6 victory. The Hurricanes, who improved to 4-12-2 (won-lost-overtime losses), closed the gap on the fourth-place Red Wings (7-9-1) to within five points.
At Simmons Sport Centre, Andrew Skinner (2-1), Patrick Cummiskey (1-2), Logan MacKinnon (1-2), Adam Gardner (1-1), Mason Baker and John Grimmer accounted for the Hurricanes’ scoring. Jordan Gallant (2), Jonny Richards (2), Alex Seyforth, Will Connolly, Blake Ozon and Nick MacDonald assisted.
Jeremy Balderston (3-1), Willie Gaudet (1-3), Matt Kelly and Colton Gallant replied for the Red Wings. Logan Arsenault (2), Ryan McNeill, Cleve McNeill and Tyson Phillips earned helpers.
The Hurricanes built period advantages of 3-1 and 5-2.
Aaron Arsenault earned the goaltending win, and Spencer Rennie took the loss.
Referee Mike Annear called a total of seven minor penalties in the game – five of those against the Hurricanes. Each team also picked up one fighting major and one game misconduct.
