ALBERTON – The Kings County Kings upset the Western Regals 8-5 here at the Jacques Cartier Arena on Saturday night.
P.E.I. Midget AAA Hockey League
The Kings sit in sixth place in the seven-team P.E.I. Midget AAA Hockey League at 3-7-3 (won-lost-tied), and the league-leading Regals fell to 12-2-3 with the loss.
Colby Mooney had four assists to lead the Kings, who received three-point efforts from Tyler Rose (2-1) and Ben Millar (1-2). Mike MacGregor (1-1), Chase MacLeod (1-1), Matt MacKinnon (1-1), Tyler McGillvray and Austin McNally also dented the twine. Keirsten Steele (2) and Kevin MacLeod collected assists.
Brett Aylward (2-1), Jake Getson (1-1), Jeff Gaudet (1-1) and Jake Arsenault countered for the Alberton-based Regals. Other helpers went to Brendan Smith (2), Brayden Arsenault, Nathan Handrahan, Matt Bowness, Will Stewart and Calvin McRae, who was named the Regals’ player of the game.
The Regals led 3-2 after the first period, but the Kings answered back with five goals in the middle frame to take a 7-4 advantage into the second intermission.
Jed Walsh picked up the goaltending win. Kristen Clements and Avery Arsenault shared the goaltending duties for the Regals.
Referee Jonny Martin called four minor penalties against the Kings. The Regals picked up five minors and two double minors for head contact.
The Regals’ next game is against the Summerside Capitals at the Evangeline Recreation Centre in Abram-Village on Friday at 7 p.m. The Regals’ next home game is against Pownal at the Jacques Cartier Arena on Saturday at 7:30 p.m.
