SUMMERSIDE – The Campbellton Tigers made the most of their early opportunities on Sunday afternoon.

The Campbellton Tigers’ Chris Stovall dives to prevent Maxim Pitre of the Summerside Western Capitals from getting away a quality shot on goaltender Miguel Sullivan during a second-period breakaway. The action took place during Sunday afternoon’s MHL (Maritime Junior Hockey League game at Eastlink Arena.
The Tigers scored four goals on their first 15 shots en route to a 5-3 victory over the Summerside Western Capitals before an announced crowd of 608 fans at Eastlink Arena.
It was an important win for the Tigers, who closed to within six points of the fourth-place Caps for the final playoff berth in the Roger Meek Division of the MHL (Maritime Junior Hockey League).
Campbellton is now 6-19-1-1 (won-lost-overtime losses-shootout losses) while the Caps are 9-13-1-1.
Keenan Kennedy (2), David Budgell and Francis Bernier scored for the Tigers, who held period leads of 3-1 and 4-1.
Brad Power, Isaac Jay and Zen Hamil countered for the Caps.
Tigers goaltender Miguel Sullivan turned in a 35-save performance as the Caps outshot the Tigers 38-29. Caps starting goaltender Simon-Pier Chamberland gave up four goals on 15 shots before he was relieved by Alex Kelly at 8:27 of the second period.
Overall, the Caps outshot the Tigers 38-29.
