Midget Regals outlast Matrix 7-5

ALBERTON – The Western Regals received three points from three different players in outlasting the Mid-Isle Matrix 7-5 in a P.E.I. Midget AAA Hockey League game on Saturday night.

The site of the game was the Jacques Cartier Arena.

Brett Aylward (2-1), Chase McCue (2), Jeff Gaudet (1-2), Brendan Smith (1-1) and Brandon Williams scored for the league-leading Regals, who improved to 10-1-3 (won-lost-tied). TJ Shea (3), Brayden Arsenault and Jake Arsenault added assists.

Drew Grady (2), Brady Vandervelden and Spencer Francis replied for the Matrix (5-6-1). Assists were credited to Alex Wood (2), Jacob Stewart (2), Brendan Jarvis (2) and Liam O’Connor.

The score was tied 2-2 after the first period, and the Regals outscored the Matrix 4-3 in the middle frame to take a 6-5 lead into the second intermission.

Avery Arsenault registered the goaltending win.

The Matrix picked up seven minors, one double minor for head contact, one fighting major and one game misconduct. The Alberton-based Regals were called for 13 minors, one double minor for head contact, one fighting major and two game misconducts.

Busy week

The Regals play back-to-back road games against the Sherwood Falcons (4-2-5) at Cody Banks Arena on Monday (8:30 p.m.) and Thursday (8:20 p.m.), before returning home to host the Kings County Kings (2-7-2) on Saturday, Dec. 14, at 7:30 p.m.
