Big third period keys Sabres’ win in Tignish

TIGNISH – The Belfast Sabres connected for three unanswered third-period goals in a 5-2 road win over the Tignish Perry’s Construction Aces on Friday night.

The Razzy’s P.E.I. Junior C Hockey League game was played at the Tignish Credit Union Arena.

Cory McGuire led the Sabres with two goals and one assist, and Cody Garnhum added a goal and two helpers. Matthew Glover and Connor Duffy added single goals, with assists credited to Ben Nabuurs, Jared Fraser, Brady Doiron and Mike McQuillan.

Traven Gaudet (1-1) and Troy Gallant countered for the Aces. Dylan Rayner, Jacob LeClair and Riley Shea chipped in with helpers.

The Sabres led 1-0 after the first period, and the teams went into the dressing rooms after 40 minutes tied 2-2.

Jason Whiteway earned the goaltending win over Jake Hackett.

Referee Justin DesRoches called four of six minor penalties against Belfast. Each team picked up one fighting major and game misconduct.
