Smyth’s late goal sends Falcons to victory over Caps

CHARLOTTETOWN – Brandon Smyth scored his second goal of the night with 5:34 remaining in regulation time to snap a 6-6 tie, and send the Sherwood Falcons to a 7-6 victory over the Summerside Hemphill GM Capitals on Thursday night.

P.E.I. Midget AAA Hockey League

The Cody Banks Arena was the site of the P.E.I. Midget AAA Hockey League game.

Jordan Birt had one goal and three assists to lead the offensive attack for the Falcons, who improved to 4-2-4 (won-lost-tied). Matthew Sinnott (2), Tanner MacLean (1-1) and Jack Connell also scored for the Falcons. Riley Dunphy added two assists.

Owen Arsenault (2-1), Jesse MacFarlane (1-2), Brandon Arsenault, Brady Albert and Cameron Gillis countered for the Capitals (3-4-2). Other assists were credited to Ryan Campbell (2), Logan Vandervelden and Chasse Gallant.

The Falcons led 3-2 after the first period, and the teams went into the second intermission tied 4-4.

Winning goaltender was Jeremy Ramsay, and Kolby Bridges tended goal for the Capitals.

The Falcons were assessed five minor penalties and one double minor for head contact. The Caps picked up four minor infractions.
