“Today is a dream come true,” said Nevins. “To have the opportunity to join such a historic franchise like the Montreal Canadiens is something you strive for everyday as a hockey player.”

In 30 games with the Islanders in the 2013-14 Quebec Major Junior Hockey League regular season, Nevins has collected 30 points, including 11 goals. The six-foot-two, 205-pound forward ranks second on the Islanders in plus-minus differential (+7) and shots on goal (103). He leads the QMJHL with 85 penalty minutes, and has tallied three power-play goals.

“Jack's hard work and perseverance has paid off,” said Islanders head coach Gordie Dwyer. “His (Nevins) compete level and character have provided him with this great opportunity.

“He is a great example to not only his teammates, but to all players who play the game.”
