To high-scoring victory over Montague
KENSINGTON – Jordan Mayhew’s four-point effort sparked the Kensington Moase Plumbing and Heating Vipers to an 8-5 victory over the Montague Maniacs on Sunday night.
The Island Junior Hockey League game attracted 248 fans to Community Gardens.
Mayhew (3-1), Brett Hogan (2-2), Spencer Montgomery (2-1) and Kyle Doucette (1-1) scored for the Vipers, who improved their league-leading record to 6-1-0 (won-lost-overtime losses). Jeremy Jollimore and Morgan Walker each added two assists.
Damon MacDonald (2-2), Brandon Gaudet (2) and Curtis MacGregor (1-1) countered for the Maniacs (4-3-0). Matt Myers chipped in with three assists.
The Vipers led 3-2 after the opening period, and the teams went into the second intermission tied 4-4.
Overall, the Vipers outshot the Maniacs 51-44. Dylan McQuaid earned the goaltending win.
Referees Jonny Martin and Thane Arsenault called eight minors, one 10-minute misconduct and one game misconduct against the Vipers. The Maniacs were whistled for four minors.
