CHARLOTTETOWN – The Sherwood A&S Scrap Metal Falcons handed the Kensington Moase Plumbing and Heating Vipers their first loss of the 2013-14 Island Junior Hockey League regular season on Wednesday night.
Josh Scott’s goal at 4:07 of the third period stood up as the game-winner in the Falcons’ 5-4 decision over the visiting Vipers, who fell to 5-1-0 (won-lost-overtime losses).
The Falcons, meanwhile, improved to 3-2-1.
At the Cody Banks Arena, Craig Dougan had two goals and an assist to lead the Falcons, who also received a brace from Brandon Birt. Josh Kirkpatrick, Lucas Matthews, Trevor MacKinnon, Brady Cook and Matt McQuaid assisted.
Four different players – Matt Stead, Josh Bowman, Kyle Doucette and Logan Garnhum – answered for the Vipers. Spencer McAllister, Adam Wight, Spencer Montgomery, Jordan Mayhew, Ryan Kelly and Morgan Walker drew helpers.
The Vipers jumped out to a 2-0 lead after the opening period, but the Falcons roared back with four unanswered second-period goals to take a 4-2 advantage to the dressing room after 40 minutes.
Overall, the Vipers held a 36-32 shots-on-goal advantage. Winning goaltender was Kody MacDonald, and Dylan McQuaid took the loss.
