Island Junior Hockey League weekend roundup
KENSINGTON – The Kensington Moase Plumbing and Heating Vipers pulled out an overtime victory while the Montague Maniacs spoiled the home opener for the Arsenault’s Fish Mart Western Red Wings.
Those were two of the weekend highlights in the Island Junior Hockey League.
Vipers 3 Holland
College Hurricanes 2 (OT)
At Community Gardens in Kensington, Jeremy Jollimore scored his first goal of the season 1:45 into overtime to lift the Vipers to victory.
Spencer Montgomery (1-1) and Logan Garnhum also scored for the Vipers, who are off to a 3-0-0 (won-lost-overtime/shootout losses) start in the regular season.
Patrick Cummiskey and Ryan Trowsdale replied for the Hurricanes (1-1-2), who dropped a 6-5 shootout decision to Sherwood over the long weekend as well.
Winning goaltender Dylan McQuaid made 31 saves while the Hurricanes’ Matt Derry finished with 44 stops.
Maniacs 11 Red Wings 3
At the Evangeline Recreation Centre in Abram-Village, Matt Myers (2-3), Brandon Gaudet (2-1), Damon MacDonald (1-4), Curtis MacGregor (1-2), Peter MacLeod (1-1), Connor Myers (1-1), Stewart Branstrom (1-1), Stephen Gould and Chris Stevenson scored for Montague (2-2-0).
Jeremy Balderston (1-1), Willie Gaudet and Logan Arsenault countered for the Red Wings (1-2-0).
Winning goaltender was Daniel Nicholson. The Red Wings outshot the Maniacs 35-33.
