SUMMERSIDE – The Summerside Western Capitals got off to a first period 2-1 lead over the CIBC Wood Gundy Lumberjacks in Maritime Hockey League (Junior A) action at Eastlink Arena but that was all they could muster, falling 3-2.
The Lumberjacks Jesse MacInnis scored all three goals in the win.
MacInnis opened the scoring at the 6:24 mark of the first period when he pushed the puck past Summerside goal tender Simon-Pier Chamberland.
The Capitals knotted the game at one when Thomas Stavert scored unassisted on Lumberjacks net minder Cory Petersen at 15:30. The home team looked like it was abut to break the game open when just 20 seconds later Isaac Jay on assists from Alex Bradley and Jordan Buchanan.
But that would be the end of the scoring for Summerside.
The Lumberjacks tied the game at the 9:35 make of the second period when MacInnis got his second goal of then night while playing short handed.
MacInnis iced the win with his third goal of the game at the 3:322 mark of period three on assists by Brendan Nickerson and Campbell Pickard.
Shots on goal were 44 for the Western Capital and 31 for the Lumberjacks.
