Campbellton visits Summerside on Sunday afternoon
DIEPPE, N.B. – The Dieppe Commandos took control early and never looked back in defeating the Summerside Western Capitals 6-1 in the MHL (Maritime Junior Hockey League) on Saturday night.
The Commandos led 2-0 after the first period, and then scored twice in the first 1:16 of the middle frame to take a commanding 4-0 advantage. The score after 40 minutes was 6-1.
Shane Dallaire and Thierry Comtois each had two goals and two assists to lead the Commandos, who improved to 4-2-1-0 (won-lost-overtime losses-shootout losses). Former Western Capitals Colton Parsons and Luke Warner each added single goals for Dieppe, which received two assists from Alex Clark and Mathieu Newcomb.
Alex Bradley, assisted by Brad Power, netted the lone goal for the Capitals, who lost their fifth game in a row while dropping to 1-5-0-0.
The Capitals actually outshot the Commandos 39-35. Connor Wilkinson earned the goaltending win while Summerside starter Grant Grady gave up four goals on 15 shots before he was relieved by Alex Kelly following Dieppe’s fourth goal. Kelly stopped 18 of 20 shots the rest of the way.
Wilkinson was perfect in the first and third periods, when the Caps held 15-13 and 14-10 shots-on-goal advantages.
The Capitals will look to get back on the winning track at home on Sunday afternoon. The Caps host the Campbellton Tigers at Eastlink Arena in a 2 p.m. start.
