GATINEAU, Que. – The Charlottetown Islanders scored four unanswered third-period goals in a 5-3 victory over the Gatineau Olympiques on Wednesday night.
The Quebec Major Junior Hockey League contest attracted 1,787 fans to the Robert Guertin Centre.
Troy Vance’s goal with 1:01 remaining in regulation time snapped a 3-3 tie, and Alexandre Goulet sealed the win with an empty-net goal at 19:54. Matej Beran scored twice and Daniel Sprong added a single tally to account for the other goals for Charlottetown (6-0-0-1).
Jean-Simon Deslauriers, Emile Poirier and Marc-Olivier Brouillard countered for Gatineau (4-3-0-0).
The Olympiques, who held period leads of 1-0 and 3-1, outshot the Islanders 27-22. Eric Brassard earned the goaltending win.
