In major midget action Sunday afternoon
FREDERICTON – The Fredericton Canadiens scored four unanswered goals in a 4-1 victory over the Kensington Monaghan Farms Wild on Sunday afternoon.
The New Brunswick/P.E.I. Major Midget Hockey League game was played at Willie O’Ree Place.
Cole Hackett, assisted by Sam Jay and Lucas Beaulieu, opened the scoring for the Wild at 14:22 of the first period. However, the Canadiens answered back with a goal to send the teams into the first intermission tied 1-1, and Fredericton led 2-1 after 40 minutes.
An insurance goal at 8:58 of the third period made it 3-1, and the Canadiens sealed the win with an empty-net goal in the game’s final minute.
Sam Cameron (2), Peyton Hoyt and Pat Daley scored for the Canadiens, who improved to 1-2 (won-lost) in the regular season. The Wild fell to 0-3.
Winning goaltender Aidan Critchlow stopped 20 of 21 shots while Wild goaltender Bradley Shea turned aside 30 of 33 shots.
