CHARLOTTETOWN – The Holland College Hurricanes are winding up their exhibition schedule in the Island Junior Hockey League over the next few days.
The Hurricanes hosted the Montague Maniacs at Eastlink Arena on Thursday night, and pay a return visit to Montague on Monday, Sept. 30.
The Hurricanes will open the 2013-14 regular season on the road against the Maniacs on Friday, Oct. 4, and will face the Arsenault’s Fish Mart Western Red Wings in their home opener at Simmons Sport Centre in Charlottetown on Saturday, Oct. 5.
The Hurricanes will rely on newcomer Jonathan Boutin in goal to carry most of the load this season.
Boutin, a native of Dartmouth, N.S., and a first-year firefighting student, has experience in the MHL (Maritime Junior Hockey League) as well as in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League as a member of the P.E.I. Rocket organization.
Defensively, the Hurricanes have defencemen Curtis Hall, Eric Locke and Will Connolly returning. Rookies Logan Welsh, Peter Giggie and Branson Groom round out the blue-line unit.
Forwards Blake Ozon and Jonny Richards return to lead the team up front alongside rookies Alex Seyforth and Nick MacDonald, who look to make an impact right away.
