Midget Regals host team for minor midget tournament
CHARLOTTETOWN – The Alberton Regals have been selected as host of the 2014 Atlantic minor midget AAA hockey championship.
The announcement was made through a Hockey P.E.I. media release issued on Tuesday morning.
"On behalf of the Alberton Regals’ midget AAA team and our host committee, we are very excited and look forward to hosting the top minor midget AAA teams in Atlantic Canada,” said Rhonda McNeill, representing the Regals and the bid committee. “We are very excited and are certain that, in co-operation with Hockey P.E.I., we will be able to stage a great event.
“Not only will it be a great experience for our own players, but we plan on making sure to make this event something all teams will remember."
The five-team tournament, which will be held at the Jacques Cartier Arena from March 27 to 30, will feature the host Regals along with the provincial champions from Newfoundland and Labrador, New Brunswick, Nova Scotia and the winner of the P.E.I. Midget AAA Hockey League. Should the Regals win the provincial championship, the runner-up will be the P.E.I. representative.
A total of four bids were submitted to host the event. A committee comprised of members of Hockey P.E.I. Minor Council reviewed the bid applications, and made the selection for the championships.
This will be the final time the Atlantic minor midget AAA hockey championship will be held as the tournament will be discontinued after this season.
