To exhibition game victory vs. Kensington
CHARLOTTETOWN – Shawn Corney’s hat trick sparked the Charlottetown Islanders to a 4-2 victory over the Kensington Wild on Sunday afternoon.
The New Brunswick/P.E.I. Major Midget Hockey League exhibition game was played at MacLauchlan Arena on the UPEI campus.
Alex Hambly also scored for the Islanders, who received assists from Nick Currie, Hunter MacIntyre, Jonathan Larter and Connor MacEachern.
Colton Chaisson (1-1) and Dylan Wall countered for the Wild. Brendan Williams, Campbell Gallant and Sam Jay added helpers.
The Islanders led 3-0 after the first period and 4-1 following 40 minutes.
James Duffy and Cam Duffy split the goaltending duties for Charlottetown. Kensington’s goaltenders were Bradley Shea and Cameron Visser.
The Islanders picked up 13 minors, one double minor, one fighting major and two game misconducts. The Wild was assessed 12 minors, two double minors, one fighting major and two game misconducts.
The Wild will open the regular season on the road against the Moncton Flyers on Saturday, Sept. 21. Kensington’s regular-season home opener at Community Gardens is against the Saint John Vitos on Saturday, Sept. 28, at 7:30 p.m.
