In exhibition game vs. Kensington on Saturday night
KENSINGTON – Three power-play goals sparked the Charlottetown Islanders to a 4-3 victory over the Kensington Wild in a New Brunswick/P.E.I. Major Midget Hockey League exhibition game on Saturday night.
The game attracted an estimated 350 fans to Community Gardens in the Wild’s first-ever home game. The Wild was previously known as the Cornwall Thunder.
Shawn Corney, Alex Hambly, Jordan McCabe and Dylan Wheatley scored for the Islanders, who held period leads of 2-1 and 4-1. Single helpers were credited to Sebastien Cormier, Jonathan Arsenault, Jonathan Larter, Calen MacInnis, Logan Toole and Cole Jenkins.
Austin Taylor (2) and Abel Arsenault (1-1) replied for the Wild. Spencer Sherren, Riley Thompson, Colton Chiasson and Jesse Jay earned assists.
Overall, the Wild outshot the Islanders 37-36. James Duffy and Nolan McGuigan shared the goaltending duties for Charlottetown. Cameron Visser and Alex Smith tended goal for Kensington.
Referee Jonny Martin called five minors, two double minors, one slashing major and one 10-minute misconduct against the Wild. The Islanders picked up four minors and two double minors.
