CHARLOTTETOWN – Bradley Kennedy scored the only goal of the shootout to lift the Charlottetown Islanders to a 3-2 victory over the visiting Cape Breton Screaming Eagles on Saturday night.
The Quebec Major Junior Hockey League game attracted 2,382 fans to the Eastlink Centre.
Anthony Cortese and Matthew Bursey scored regulation-time goals for the Islanders, who improved to 2-0 (won-lost) in the regular season. Kameron Kielly, Daniel Sprong, Cole Hutchinson and Jack Nevins drew assists.
Jason Bell and Julien Pelletier answered for Cape Breton.
The teams were tied 1-1 after the opening period, and 2-2 following 40 minutes.
Antoine Bibeau earned the goaltending win, and Maxime Lagacé was between the pipes for Cape Breton, which outshot Charlottetown 41-32 through regulation time and the five-minute overtime period.
The Islanders are on the road this weekend, paying a return visit to Cape Breton on Friday and visiting the Saint John Sea Dogs on Sunday.
