DIEPPE, N.B. – The Summerside Western Capitals evened out their weekend home-and-home with the Dieppe Commandos on Sunday afternoon, with an 8-4 win on the road.
The Capitals dropped their first pre-season game against the Commandos on Saturday with a 3-2 loss.
The Caps got scoring early on Sunday, with goals from Tyler Doyle and Bruce Hornbrook before the five-minute mark.
Former Caps forward Colton Parsons began a pushback for the Commandos late in the first frame when he netted his first of the pre-season, before Tyler Johnson scored to tie things at two.
The Caps opened the second period strong and never looked back, with a flurry of goals from Isaac Jay (2), Nick Skerlick and Zen Hamil, all within five minutes of each other.
J.P. Harvey would add a pair for the Caps before the final buzzer, to go with three assists, leading the Caps with five points.
Also scoring for the Commandos was Ryan Chiasson, with a pair in the second period.
Grant Grady and Aidan Critchlow split the game between the pipes for the Caps, with Grady giving up three goals on 17 shots and Critchlow letting in one on 27 attempts.
The Caps next preseason game will be against the Weeks Crushers in Pictou on Tuesday night, before returning home to face the Crushers in Kensington on Sept. 8 at 7 p.m.
Following the game, the Caps trimmed their roster down to 28, cutting 13 players from their camp roster.
