Capitals take hard fought contest

SUMMERSIDE - The Summerside Western Capitals made the most of their 23shots defeating the Woodstock Slammers 4 to 3 in Maritime Hockey League action Saturday night at Credit Union Place.

The Capitals set the tone for the game early when just 10 seconds into the contest when Alex Gallant took a double penalty for a fighting major and as an instigator.

Two minutes later, the Slammers’ Brennan Saulnier and the Caps’ Patrick Volpe went sent off for matching roughing penalties after the whistle.

Woodstock opened the scoring at the 1504 mark when Robbie DeFulvils beat Kevin Bailie on assists from E.J. Faust and Carlos Amestoy.

The Caps responded less than a minute later when Christopher Caissy, on assists from Justin Rasmussen and Jonathan Aubertin, found the net on the power play.

The Capitals’ MacKenzie Braid and Woodstock’s Bret MacLean got into it at the 17:41 mark and received fighting majors.

The Caps took a 2 to 1 lead midway through the second period on a power play goal.

With the Slammers’ Bradley MacDonald of f for goal tender interference, Aubertin, on assists from JP Harvey and Rasmussen, put the Caps on top.

But Woodstock came back strong with two goals by Amestoy from DeFulvils and Faust from Defulvils and Amestoy to close out the second period with a 3 to 2 lead.

The third period belonged to the Capitals.

Harvey tied the game for the Western Capitals when he beat Slammers’ goal tended Simon-Pier Chamberland at the 227 mark of the third period. Braid and Caissy had assists.

Colton Parsons, on assists from Danny Chiasson and Scott Trask scored a power play goal what would be the winning goal at 10:4 of the third period.

Woodstock threw 36 shots at Bailie while Summerside managed 23 on the Slammers’ net minder.

Summerside was 3 for 8 on the power while Woodstock was 0 for 10 with the man advantage.

The three stars were all from the Capitals. The number one star was Colton Parsons the number two star was .JP Harvey and the number three star was Christopher Caissy.

Attendance was 1478.
