Canada West scores fastest power-play goal in WJAC history

SUMMERSIDE -- Cody Kunyk's power-play goal with 16 seconds left in the first period has lifted Canada West into a 1-1 tie with Sweden at the 2009 World Junior 'A' Hockey Challenge on Tuesday afternoon.

Kunyk one-timed a pass from a sharp angle off the right wing. The goal came six seconds into the power play -- the fastest in the four-year history of the tournament for 19-and-under players.

Jonathan Johansson was credited with Sweden's goal at 4:38.

Overall, Sweden, which held a territorial advantage in the first 20 minutes, outshot Canada West 12-7.

Canada West was 1-for-2 on the power play and Sweden went 1-for-1.
